“Planning, plotting, pulling things together”

In this one-hour session we will look at the different ways of plotting long-form fiction. The two most common expressions associated with this are ‘plotting’ and ‘pantsing’ (meaning, to write by the seat of your pants). We will look at the advantages and disadvantages of both styles, and consider how this might change


Dr Charley Barnes is an academic, crime writer, and poet based in Worcester, UK. She was appointed as Worcestershire's Poet Laureate for 2019-20 and is a lecturer at no fewer than three Universities in English Literature and Creative Writing. ​Her crime writing covers everything from psychological thrillers to good old-fashioned detective work. She is currently working on her fourth novel.
